HomeGrown Gourmet #4 - The Roundup
By Michelle | January 4, 2008

Firstly, I’d like to thanks the eight bloggers who took part in last month’s HomeGrown Gourmet. I’d also like to thank Andrew from Spittoon Extra for maintaining Spittoon Extra for maintaining Is My Blog Burning and thus spreading the word about the event. December is traditionally the most hectic time of the year and I really appreciate you guys for going out of your way to create super dishes. Beef, chicken, pork, lamb, seafood, vegetarian and vegan options to choose from. What are we waiting for? Let’s dive right in!
Quick on her toes, Dr. Nandita Iyer from Saffron Trail, submitted the first entry. She prepared a Cauliflower, Spinach and Pasta Casserole. Very wholesome indeed. For my vegetarian readers, head to her site for nutritional information, she knows what she is talking about.

Close on her heels, new food blogger Rachel from Tangerine’s Kitchen Hangout sent in a traditional Indian Chicken Stew. You just can’t go wrong with coconut!

Deeba from Passionate about Baking shed some light on the popular North Indian dish Gosht do Piaza with a little bit of fascinating history.

Erika from Bean’s Bistro, the brainchild behind HomeGrown Gourmet, came up with an exquisite Lobster casserole to represent Maine, USA.
Lalaine from The Mobile Cook wanted to cook up a mean Vietnamese stew but alas when she checked out her pantry, she realised key ingredients were not there. Instead she kept it simple with her Simple Beef Stew and the results were delicious.

Bee and Jai’s photography is as usual superb. They wrote a most informative post about a facet of Indian cuisine. Read more about Mirchi Ka Salan on Jugalbandi; this one is hot!

I’ve never tried soufflés, there just never has been an opportunity. My understanding is that they are quite an art to make. One wrong turn and you are sitting with a major disaster on your hands, but Mansi from Fun and Food seems to know a secret or two because her Spinach, Onion and Cheese Soufflés came out perfectly.

My entry is the Beef, Prune and Guinness Stew representing Ireland. You just can’t go wrong with alcohol to work its magic on meat in the cooking process.

AND THE WINNER IS….
Gretchen from Canela & Comino’s Peruvian Peanut Pork. This is South American cooking at its best. If she accepts, she will be hosting the HomeGrown Gourmet event this month. Congrats!
Thanks again to everybody who played along!
I will soon be announcing Greedy Gourmet’s very own monthly event. Details coming soon….

Thank you Michelle, thank you all. I feel like I should have had an acceptance speech prepared.
I am very happy that a Peruvian dish would win Homegrown Gourmet.
Excitedly, this will mean that I will be hosting my *very first* foodblog event. I hope you all will visit Canela & Comino over the weekend to see what I have chosen!
