SnackShots #2: Leek
By Michelle | February 12, 2008
On the 1st of March Wales celebrates St David’s Day in remembrance of the death of Saint David who died on 1 March 589. Every year a huge parade is held in Cardiff and it sure looks like something to behold. Wales has two national emblems: the daffodil and leek. As pretty as the yellow flower is we unfortunately can not eat it, so let’s make this event about the leek.
How do you like your leeks? Baked, steamed or fried? Maybe you’d like to show off your abstract photography skills by playing with the fine lines and concentric circles of the vegetable. Whatever you do, we want to see it!
Are you a fan of the leek? Then why not write about it as well! There is another award in this challenge, called Word4Word. The entry with the most captivating story and writing style, wins!
What Must I Do?
Take a photo of anything leek.
Pictures should be no more than 400px in length or width.
Only one photo per person or blog is allowed.
The deadline is on 31 March 2008.
Please send an email to michelle AT greedygourmet DOT com and include the following:
- Your name
- The name and URL of your blog
- The name of your dish OR a descriptive title of your photo
- Which camera and lens you used
- The permalink to your entry posting with a link to Snackshots’ entry details, i.e. this page.
If you don’t have a blog, you can still participate; just email us your entry with a photo attached.
Leek should be the main (50% or more) ingredient in your dish/photo.
What Happens After That?
A roundup of all entries will be posted a few days later. Readers will be able to vote for their favourite entry. A panel of judges will judge all entries and the winners will be announced soon after.
P.S. Thanks to Andrew and Cate for posting this event on Is My Blog Burning and Sticky Date respectively.

[…] Then up to you what you want to do with the juice. The suggestion is to drink it every 2 to 3 hours, 250ml at a time. If you get hungry (!) have the leeks themselves, 100-125gr at a time. Bon appetite. Besides the obvious slimmer me that will emerge after this weekend, I also want to submit this leeks photo to SnackShots 2 […]
