SnackShots #5: Meringue
By Michelle | June 23, 2008
Crunchy, crispy, soft, sticky and sweet. These are just a few words that come to mind when I think of meringues. With summer in full swing in the northern hemisphere we are looking for some light and refreshing desserts and what better way to celebrate the season than with meringues. If you don’t know how to make meringues or are ill-equipped, don’t despair. You may buy them from your local shop or bakery and continue preparing your favourite dessert or simply just admire them in their simple form. To give you a few ideas on how to use meringue: Floating Islands, Lemon Meringue Pie, Pavlova, Baked Alaska and Eton Mess.
Let your imaginations run wild!
What Must I Do?
Take a photo of your meringue/dessert.
Pictures should be no more than 400px in length or width.
Only one photo per person or blog is allowed.
The deadline is on 24 July 2008.
Please send an email to michelle AT greedygourmet DOT com and include the following:
- Your name
- The name and URL of your blog
- The name of your dish OR a descriptive title of your photo
- Which camera and lens you used
- The permalink to your entry posting with a link to Snackshots’ entry details, i.e. this page.
If you don’t have a blog, you can still participate; just email us your entry with a photo attached.
Meringue should be the main (50% or more) component in your dish/photo.
What Happens After That?
I will reply to your email to confirm that I have received your entry. If within a few days you haven’t heard from me, give me a nudge, because your email might have landed in my spam trap.
A roundup of all entries will be posted a few days later. A panel of judges will judge all entries and the winners will be announced soon after.

The challenge of meringues is more intense for me than daring bakers. Last time I made a Pavlova I needed a jack hammer to free it from the parchment. I’m going to have to conquer this thing once and for all.
