I had a chat the last time this ran with the bloke from Le Petit Poisson and learned a lot about oysters. Mind you they had a small stall tucked away at the back of the Galleria and didn’t need chain mail gloves to open their produce. It was an off place to hold it and needed a large venue and a better range of fish stalls. I avoided the fake prawns having tried them once before at a country show – they really, really are bad…

I remember a Perlemoen ( Abilone) festival in Hermanus where we had onion soup with a few abalone lumps in on rice …..I know how disappointed you must have been!

Imitation prawns?! And I thought imitation crab was bad enough. Hideous. I’m so sorry for your misfortune and what a bloody rip off. I would have been really pissed. Thanks for sharing it though, it was a great read.

You need to come to Vancouver. The seafood here is quite spectacular and ridiculously cheap. It really is worth the airfare.
