Book Review: Best Food Writing 2002
Holly Hughes has definitely done a great job at assembling a book with essays written by people from all walks of life. Unfortunately, most if not all the writers reside in the USA and it would have been refreshing to read others’ point of view elsewhere on the planet. However, USA has a very rich and varied food culture and it was fascinating to read about the oyster shuckers in New Orleans and the country’s historical Italian background. Of course, as usual Anthony Bourdain shone through with his grand writing style and adventures in Morocco. Since it is post 9/11 a few pieces were a tad on the heavy side, especially if you’re like me who just want to enjoy light entertainment and practise the art of escapism. Other than that, I can highly recommend it to the dedicated foodie.
