Lactofree Yogurt

Sometime last year I reviewed a brand new product on the market, called Lactofree. For the first time ever lactose intolerant sufferers can enjoy real milk without experiencing any repercussions. Good news! The company has come up with a new product; yogurt. Let’s take a look.

I hope the packaging designer received a big fat check for a job well done. The clean yet funky design is eye-catching and very pleasing to look at and immediately you know which flavours are on offer; the strawberries and raspberries are pretty hard to miss.

As for taste, you can’t tell whether the yogurt contains lactose or not. Contrary to the milk, this time it is full-fat which makes a huge difference. It’s very sweet and fruity, ideal for people who have a sweet tooth like me. When unpacking groceries it is a covert operation to get the yogurt pack out of the shopping bag into the fridge because once Gabriel spots it, that’s it. Suddenly a chilled out toddler gets the shakes and enthusiastically exclaims “Mmmmmmm mmmmm” and there won’t be peace until a container and a spoon are placed in front of him. You have been warned, it really is that good.

At Waitrose I kept looking out for the plain variety, but every time a staff member told me they have run out. Whether it is true or not I don’t know. The question still lingers whether they actually stock it at all.
In the spirit of a new year, the old website has been binned and instead a new, fresh, modern and wicked site took its place. It would be a good idea though if they placed a link (called Products) on the main menu which will take you to a page listing the whole products range with more details.
In December the first Lactofree event, in the form of a cheese and wine evening, took place in London. It was fun to chat to individuals facing the same food dilemmas as me and I also got to meet Niamh of Eat Like a Girl, who is a lovely lady.
Apparently in January a mild Cheddar cheese will hit the shelves at most major retailers, so keep your eyes peeled next time you go shopping.

Most aged cheeses are lactose free anyway. If the carbohydrate content is 0g, it wont contain any milk sugar (lactose).

Thanks, Tara. I didn’t know that! I learn something new everyday.
