Giveaway #11: Abel & Cole’s Picnic Box – CLOSED

Everyone is complaining about the “hot and dry summer” Britain is supposed to be experiencing at the moment. Anything but! After five years of living in this country I’ve learnt to ignore any weather forecasts but check out the Met Office’s Rain Radar instead and if all seems clear, make a mad dash for the park! If there is time left after basking in glorious sunshine we even have a picnic (full review here). Now this is where I get curious…

Abel & Cole Picnic Box

Abel & Cole Picnic Box

By now you, my dear readers, must have realised I have a long term relationship with Abel & Cole. Thus far I’ve reviewed their Mixed Organic Fruit & Vegetable Box, Free Range Chicken, Meat Pies and now their Picnic Box.

It is only natural to get suspicious of a blogger’s integrity once they start receiving free stuff from companies far and wide. After all, he doesn’t want to bite the hand that (in this case literally) feeds him by writing a bad review. But if I can’t be honest, what’s the point of reading this blog if it’s all a big charade? Chicken with Almonds & Grapes

Chicken with Almonds & Grapes

Have you ever noticed how grapes never get used in cooking? Of course, they are best eaten on their own as a snack but they mostly feature in jellies, juice and desserts like fruit salad. This severely underused fruit can also be used to spruce up any salad or sandwich and will make a savoury dish like this one a joy to eat with juicy, sweet and fruity bursts between mouthfuls of meat. Heaven!

Brie & Grape Tortilla Wraps

Brie & Grape Tortilla Wraps

English doesn’t seem to be the only language which contains words with multiple meanings. Take “tortilla” in Spanish for example. Tortilla can mean the unleavened flatbreads made out of corn or wheat which originated in Mexico, or a Spanish omelette. “Torta” means cake or tart and “illa” is the dimunitive, i.e. it means little cake. We’ve all heard about fusion cuisine but what about “fusion language”? Wouldn’t it be funky to call this posh sandwich a “wrapilla”? Hmmm, contradictorily it sounds like something a big reptile from a famous action movie would eat…
