Rules are meant to be broken. Don’t you agree?

Always thinking of the next meal...

Forget the boring salad leaves, cumbersome cucumber, tired tomato, relentless onion, overly-used olive oil, gimmicky fancy vinegar and other what-have-you’s. If you’re like me, you’ll be just after the champion chicken and morish mango anyway, so why bother faffing about with the former ingredients if you could have just the star ingredients on your plate? Now this is my kind of salad, tuck in!

First of all I’d like to thank Margot of Coffee and Vanilla for nominating me in November’s Inspiring Food Photography. Competition is indeed tough, considering I’m up against Suganya of Tasty Palettes and Leemei of My Cooking Hut. Go and take a look, but don’t forget: VOTE FOR ME! Just kidding. Not really. Come on, make my day. I know you want to.

Eagerly refreshing the Daring Bakers’ Challenge page every hour I let out a big sigh of relief when I saw it’s not going to be a humungous layer cake. These cakes were definitely not doing my diet any good. Having eaten authentic Lavash in Istanbul (Turkey), I was somewhat puzzled by the “cracker” part. I like to think of Lavash as the blowfish of the bread kingdom. Fresh from the oven it looks rather impressive until you make a hole in it and steam escapes while the bread collapses quicker than you can say “granny’s saggy titties”. But crackers?? I was stumped.

Ladies and gentlemen, may I present you another classic British sandwich you will find on just about every shop’s shelf on this small isle. It took me ages to get around to trying one, since the idea of eating cold sweet corn didn’t appeal to me in the least. Starving after hours on the road Neil grabbed a sandwich at a rest stop and I grudgingly shared it with him. What a surprise it was indeed and after that I’ve been preparing my own at home which tastes all the better.
A while back I decided to cut wheat from my diet for a whole year. One of the first things I did was stock up on oatcakes.

With entries for this month’s SnackShots streaming in I started feeling a little bit uneasy. It just wouldn’t be kosher for the hostess not to take part as well, right? So here is my entry in all its glory and very healthy indeed.
Little Gabriel loves these muffins, even though he has no molars to chew them. He is slowly learning to feed himself, playing with food in his tray and turning everything into crumbs and mush. Lovely. At least he enjoys himself.
