
Everyone is complaining about the “hot and dry summer” Britain is supposed to be experiencing at the moment. Anything but! After five years of living in this country I’ve learnt to ignore any weather forecasts but check out the Met Office’s Rain Radar instead and if all seems clear, make a mad dash for the park! If there is time left after basking in glorious sunshine we even have a picnic (full review here). Now this is where I get curious…

A good cheese and pickled beetroot roll, followed by cherry genoa cake and a nice glass of pimms

My favourite picnic meal is a lovely salad, cold meat, houmous and fresh carrots.

Champagne and Strawberries with clotted cream. My other half took me for a birthday picnic to Hampstead Heath a few months ago and we had this – it was lovely!
Raw vegetables and dips, a good quality farmhouse pork pie, and some bread and boursin. And a glass of chilled white wine.

I make curried chicken and rice in puff pastry pasties – a filling meal inside a light crispy crust, easy to hold and eat with little mess!
Ham and piccalilli sandwiches on crusty bread and strawberries for dessert.
I love French onion tart with my own potatoe salad add freshly baked bread with thick butter and a bottle of wine.

Bread sticks with various dips, sour cream and chive, marie rose, cheese etc. With Mini scotch eggs, crusty bread with cheese spread & tomatos with salt.

all with a chilled sauvignon blanc!

Goat’s chees and caramalised onion chutney baguettes, with prawn cocktail flavour crisps and mango juice.Followed by fruit salad…Mmmmmmmmmm

I love spinach & ricotta squares made with filo pastry accompanied by cherry tomatoes and washed down with a nice cool Pinot Grigio!

The traditional ploughman’s – yummy fresh baked rolls or french stick, butter (not margarine), home made pickles and locally produced mature cheese with locally made cider. Oh and a small glass of something sweet for the wasps!

All sorts of cheeses, hams and Jacobs Crackers washed down with a bottle of Blossom Hill red Merlot.

Washed down with elderflower fizzy water and bubbly for whoever isn’t driving.
It has to be tuna sandwiches and lots of chocolate cake!

Home made tuna pate with toasted soldiers for starters.
Then a Greek salad with Salmon on a bed of couscous.
and thanks to the cool box we finished with a vanilla pannacotta all washed down with a pinot grigio.
Unfortunately I was driving so I had a glass of white grape juice.
Homemade bread Snowdonia Black Bober Cheese & Abel & Cole Tomato Chutney, homemade pasta crisps better than any shop bought potato crisps. Followed by fresh fruit salad and washed down with sparkling pink Cava.
