    Using more value/basic ranges, growing my own veg, using all leftovers for a seperate meal, using the dishwasher/washing machine only when full, cooking other meals/cakes when the oven is on cooking that days meal, making full use of my freezer by buying reduced foods and cooking extra meals for another day.

    Use a small amount of washing up liquid as a floor cleaner, its animal friendly too!

    I’ve been making my own pasta – it gives my arms a fantastic workout and the eggs are free from my neighbour because I give her our scraps for her chickens. So, free workout and cheap but really good quality food. I then season it with herbs from the garden (perhaps rosemary, or sage) and some butter for an easy but delicious meal.

    I thickened up thin washing up liquid by adding salt to it. I grew my own tomatoes and made loads of basic tomato sauce in portions for the freezer, I used it as base for pizza, used it in chilli con carne and bolognaise and a pasta sauce using the tomato base and churitso sauages. I invested in a bread maker £5 from a car boot, I make my own bread and it also makes cakes and jams so when the fruit and veg shop have been selling off very ripe bananas very cheap i’ve made banana bread.

    By getting my husband to build a raised bed and growing my own veg,using a compost in to make my own cmpost,using a slow cooker and breadmaker to make lovely yet cheap meals.

    We have saved money this year by doing the following:
    - bought 3 hens at point of lay and have enjoyed 3 fresh, free range eggs every day
    - We have grown all our own vegetables including potatoes, peas, beans, courgettes, cucumber, radishes,beetroot, leeks, turnips and have especially enjoyed growing tomatoes and salad which have saved us the most money
    - Getting a water butt second hand to collect rainwater to water the garden
    - Building a composter to recycle food waste to feed the garden
