My Favourite Things of 2011 – A Buying Guide for Gourmets

Don’t know what to buy for the gourmet in your life? Look no further!

At this day and age we are spoilt for choice when it comes to buying products as consumers. Sometimes it just gets downright confusing! Fear not, the Greedy Gourmet is here to help.

Throughout the year I get to try out plenty of products available on the market. Sure, some of the products I receive for free from PR agencies (marked with *), but only if I truly like the product will it appear in this buying guide. For example, a few months ago I received an electric potato peeler and it was one tragic not to mention dismal contraption that didn’t work. Of course, it’s not listed on here because I don’t want you to waste your money!

If a particularly good product got you all hot and bothered, why not share it with other readers in the COMMENTS section? Likewise, if you’re seriously ticked off about that horrendous [fill in gadget name] you bought last week, feel free to vent too.

I will be updating this list regularly throughout the year, so keep an eye on it! Here goes…

Cookware & Gadgets
Jamie Oliver’s Coarse Grater * Jamie Oliver’s Knife Block *
Usually I steer clear of celebrity branded cookware but I just couldn’t resist this charming grater. Although the blades look evilly sharp, work cautiously with it and you’ll see the cutest cheese curls coming out on the other side. Very effective! Click here for more information. I can’t even begin to tell you how sexy this knife block looks on my kitchen countertop. The knives are really sharp and actually work. Click here for more information.
Mauviel Copper Tarte Tatin 24cm *
Want to prepare the perfect tarte tatin? This copper Mauviel pan will do the trick!

Tableware
Natural Slate Cheeseboard *
Handpicked Collectionicon has a fantastic Natural Slate Cheeseboardicon available. It makes for one offbeat and very classy gift. You can see mine in photos here.

Food
Hotel Chocolat Chocolatier’s Table™ – 750g *
If you really, really, really, really, really, really love the chocoholic in your life, you will buy him/her this box of chocolates as a birthday gift. My personal favourite was the slab of Rocky Road!
Marshmallow Fluff * Sakata Rice Crackers *
OMG. Nothing feels so right and wrong at the same time when you put a spoonful in your mouth. Completely addictive. You can buy it from Amazon. Sakata rice crackers are gluten-free and a great alternative to crisps. Contains less fat too.
Lucky’s Chocolate *
Cake covered in chocolate. Cake covered in chocolate. CAKE COVERED IN CHOCOLATE. Need I say more??? Absolutely divine. You can buy it here.

Alcohol
Brown Bros Orange Muscat and Flora * Coppa Cocktails
Are you a lover of dessert wines? Then you’ll rave about Morrison’s collection. I really enjoyed sipping on them when the children have been put to bed! Buying spirits for cocktails can prove to be quite expensive if you only want to have a little bit. Coppa Cocktails is the solution. Mojito, Mai Tai and Margarita are not to be missed!
