Beef stroganoff is a traditional dish which stems from Russian cuisine. Generally speaking, it is a hearty dish which consists off sautéed thin strips of beef with a cream-based sauce. The original recipe calls for a lot of sour cream or creme fraiche, which might make you feel guilty about enjoying this beef stroganoff. This Slimming World beef stroganoff is not the case.
A Slimming World beef stroganoff allows you to enjoy heavier and richer dishes totally guilt-free. Don't even worry about the calories or the fat content. All you need to worry about are the amount of Slimming World syns this recipe contains. Funnily enough, this slimming world beef stroganoff contains only a few syns per serving.
So, enjoy this slimming world beef stroganoff on its own or with syn-free side sides. Otherwise, if you feel like you need to fill up, or you need to feed a large family, you can pair it with a side of rice. Enjoy!
slimming world beef stroganoff
Ordinarily, a beef stroganoff recipe is fatty and rich. That's because it calls for a lot of cream or smetana, which means "sour cream" in Russian. Traditional beef stroganoff isn't exactly kind to your waistline. That being said, my version of this slimming world beef stroganoff will eliminate any worries in this regard.
Equipment you need
slimming world stroganoff syn free
Obviously, the first thing you need to do is to not serve this Slimming World beef stroganoff with the rice. Generally speaking, one rice serving would add 1 more syn to your syn allowance. Even though, filling foods such as rice are usually syn free, but this really depends on the quality of the rice.
For example, if you opt for pre-packed and pre-cooked rice, like those branded ones you see in the supermarket, you can easily add 2 syns.
Generally speaking, yoghurt is syn free. Therefore, use only fat-free bio yoghurt for to make a syn-free slimming world beef stroganoff recipe. Avoid using full-fat yoghurts like Greek yogurt. If you have a few syns to spare, then go for it by all means. However, let's try to keep as syn-free as possible.
Lastly, my beef stroganoff recipe calls for quark. Quark is a fat-free fresh dairy product. It is made from soured milk until it curdles. In terms of making this a syn free Slimming World beef stroganoff, you can easily use quark. Quark is syn-free! So not only does it make this recipe creamy and thickens it up, it doesn't affect your syns.
how to eat syn free
You can also use low-fat calorie cream cheese to thicken up your beef stroganoff. However, only do so if you have a few syns left for the day.
Now, as for the beef, make sure you opt for the leanest cut. Lean meat is not only filling, it's also healthy. Therefore, you can eat as much as you want without counting syns or calories. In contrast, if you opt for a different cut of meat, you might want to double check on your syn calculator.
Other than that, my version of the Slimming World beef stroganoff is excellent if you need to lose weight.
how to make a stoganoff
The biggest trick to this recipe is adding the cream. Or, in this Slimming World beef stroganoff recipe, quark or yoghurt. Remember to use the yoghurt at room temperature. If it's too cold, it will make your sauce split in a second!
Would you like to save this?
Similarly, when you add these elements, make sure that your recipe is on low heat. Stir it gently.
slimming world stroganoff pasta bake
You can still keep this Slimming World beef stroganoff recipe syn free, even with the addition of pasta. You can enjoy rice, noodles and pasta as a syn-free food, as these are considered filling foods. However, slimming world only allows dry pasta, as fresh pasta contains twice the amount of carbohydrates.
Slimming World rules are mostly based on low-glycemic foods, so in general you should avoid eating too many carbohydrates in a single portion.
That being said, if you opt for dry pasta like penne or farfalle into this slimming world beef stroganoff, you'll end up with a delicious pasta bake. I recommend adding only one serving of the pasta into the pasta bake recipe. Remember, try to keep it low on the carbs and you'll also keep your syns low.
Besides, the slices of lean beef are filling enough, so no need to include too much pasta.
slimming world recipes
For any Slimming World recipe, it's really important for you to cook with the healthiest ingredients. For instance, this Slimming World beef stroganoff generally calls for white wine vinegar. Instead of using vinegar, which has sugar and calories in it, use lime or lemon juice. Lemon juice is perfectly okay to add a bit of acidity to add to your Slimming World recipes.
Moreover, to cut down on syns and calories, use low-calorie cooking spray instead of ordinary cooking oil. The low calorie cooking spray is also more syn-friendly as compared to olive oil. Although olive oil is very healthy for you, it contains quite a substantial amount of calories. This makes me wonder - how in the world are the people in southern Europe so thin?
