    Pineapple & Avocado Smoothie

Ladies and gentlemen, may I present to you a smoothie that doesn't contain even a hint of banana or kale.

    Pineapple & Avocado Smoothie

To be fair banana lends a creaminess and sweetness to drinks. But kale? It's vile. I truly tried to like the first green smoothie I ever made. Some say it's an acquired taste and you should start with baby spinach leaves instead. I say life's too short to consume disgusting flavours if there are plenty of other alternatives to get your vitamins. More worrying, if you suffer from hypothyroidism like I do, you need to steer clear of goitrogens. The latter is especially prevalent in vegetables of the brassica family and can play havoc with your endocrine system.

Pineapple & Avo in the blender

This Pineapple & Avocado Smoothie is something different, super healthy but still enjoyable. My four year old daughter sucked it up with glee. Have you ever noticed that close to none of the green smoothie recipes featured on the internet don't show anyone drinking it? The victims must be pulling the funniest faces while pinching their noses in their attempts to force it down!

    Girl Drinks Smoothie

Like most smoothies, the ingredients are adjustable. You don't have to use pineapple juice, but use ice instead. For something creamier, go down the coconut or other nut milk route. Use more liquid for a thinner consistency. My Froothie Optimum 9400 made quick work of the job. If you've made more than you can handle in one sitting, fret not, the acid in the pineapple and lime keeps the avocado from browning. Place it in the fridge and enjoy it hours later.

I love the sound of this one!! I do actually adore kale, but not sure about it in a smoothie - your version sounds much nicer 🙂

Hahaha - you don't like kale, I can't stand bananas ;o) I have never been mich of a smoothie drinker precisely because of the fact that every bloody smoothie contains banana - ugh! So I am loving this version without! I have never realyl bothered with green smoothies. I hear that they are an acquired taste... but to my mind caviar is an acquired taste. Putting horrible tasting things in a blender because they are superfoods just seems a bit silly to me.

This looks fab! I am on the fence about kale as it's ok blitzed in a CHOCOLATE smoothie but I can't stick it on its own.

Brilliant alternative to get the thick texture without bananas, I might try this tomorrow morning. And what a cute photo!

I confess I am firmly in the kale smoothie camp (lightly cooked first then store in the freezer - sorts out the goitrogens for the most part when it is cooked) but I'm not so keen on bananas in mine. And I LOVE avocado. Lovely recipe, Michelle.

Ha ha you have a good point about never seeing a green smoothie drinker! I quite like kale in smoothies though. Love how creamy the avocado makes the smoothie look.
